Swain Campus Visits Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company #31

In celebration of Fire Safety Month, students from Moravian Academy’s Swain Campus had the honor of being the very first visitors to tour the newly rebuilt Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company #31, affectionately known as “Swain Station.” This visit held special significance for our community—the land on which the fire station now stands was generously donated by the Swain family in the 1970s, creating a lasting connection between our school and the fire company.

During the visit, Chief Wells led a lively and informative presentation on fire safety, highlighting the importance of preparedness and how students can play a role in keeping their homes and families safe. Afterward, students explored the firehouse and took a close look at the fire trucks that serve our local community. The highlight of the tour came when students were surprised with a unique opportunity—they got to spray water from a fire hose, an unforgettable hands-on experience!

The firefighters demonstrated how they put on their full protective gear, helping students see that, while the equipment may seem a bit intimidating, the person inside is there to protect and help.

We are deeply grateful to the Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company for welcoming us and sharing their time, knowledge, and resources. Their commitment to protecting our community is truly inspiring, and we thank them for everything they do to keep us safe.
