New Middle School Wellness Series Launched at Historic Downtown Campus

Dr. Abby Mahone
Student well-being is a top priority at Moravian Academy's Historic Downtown Campus. This year, as part of our strategic plan and in alignment with the school's mission and vision, we are excited to introduce a new wellness series in the middle school. The program is designed to cultivate a holistic environment that empowers students to nurture their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, helping them develop resilience, self-awareness, and a strong sense of community.

The wellness initiative, created in collaboration with the HDC directors' office, Ms. Usino, Director of Belonging and Collective Well-Being, and the Middle School Deans, will guide students through the eight domains of wellness. These domains encompass a wide range of factors that contribute to a balanced and healthy life.

This week, we kicked off the series with an engaging introduction led by Ms. Usino. Students were introduced to the concept of wellness and began exploring how each domain impacts their daily lives. The program's lessons are designed to be interactive, encouraging students to reflect on their well-being and take active steps toward personal growth.

Research consistently shows that students who are well-supported in their mental and emotional health are better able to focus, engage, and excel academically. According to a study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology, students with higher levels of well-being demonstrate improved academic performance and greater overall success in school. By prioritizing these essential aspects of wellness, we aim to support our students in becoming well-rounded individuals who are equipped to face challenges with confidence and compassion."

By focusing on these essential aspects of wellness, we aim to support our students in becoming well-rounded individuals who are equipped to face challenges with confidence and compassion. Keep your eyes out for additional programming throughout the school year, including a Wellness Night at the end of November, where we will share resources and help connect you to community partnerships. We look forward to seeing this program's positive impact on our middle school community as the year progresses.
