Lessons in Community: Juniors Connect with Filmmaker & Beekeeper Keith Griffith III
Catherine Moore
Last week, the Junior class at our Merle-Smith Campus had the unique opportunity to Zoom with Keith Griffith III, a young filmmaker from Kentucky whose BYKids.org film, Beekeeper, was recently viewed in all Writing and Rhetoric classes. Keith’s talk tied in perfectly with bee-related activities the Juniors explored earlier in the week. Special thanks to Katherine Burd and to our very own bees in the school apiary for enriching this hands-on experience in learning!
Through his film, Keith draws a powerful comparison between the lives of bees and humans, noting that both communities thrive by working together but face serious challenges in their environments. His beekeeping hobby, which blossomed into a business, has also given him strength to cope with personal struggles. Keith shared that, like bees, people are stronger when they live and work in harmony, reminding us that by “beeing2gether,” we can face life’s challenges and thrive as a community.
