Christana Crivellaro
Eighth graders from the Historic Downtown Campus recently embarked on an enriching overnight trip to Washington, D.C., immersing themselves in history, culture, and hands-on learning. This exciting experience aligns with Moravian Academy’s mission to nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the world around us.

Day 1 began with lunch at the Ronald Reagan Building, followed by a visit to the White House, where students had the opportunity to reflect on the significance of national leadership. At the National Museum of African American History and Culture, they explored pivotal moments in the nation's history, gaining deeper insights into the struggles and achievements that have shaped our society. Students also enjoyed some free time near the Washington Monument, appreciating the historical landscape and the day's beautiful weather. The day concluded with dinner at Union Station and an educational night tour of the D.C. monuments, expertly guided by Mr. Walp, offering students a firsthand look at iconic landmarks and their historical importance.

Day 2 opened with a visit to the National Zoo, where students observed various species up close, connecting with biological concepts learned in class. A tour of the U.S. Capitol followed, where students were introduced to the legislative process, explored the original Senate and House chambers, and marveled at the intricate details of the Capitol dome, linking their experience to their civics studies. The evening was spent at Monster Mini Golf and Arcade, where students had the chance to relax, bond, and reflect on the day’s educational experiences.

On Day 3, the adventure concluded at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, part of the National Air and Space Museum. Here, students explored the history of aviation and space exploration, engaging with interactive exhibits such as virtual reality and flight simulators. This immersive experience tied into their science curriculum, sparking excitement and wonder about the future of technology and space travel. After three days of discovery and learning, students returned home, enriched by their experiences and filled with lasting memories of their time in Washington, D.C.
