Advancing Belonging and Collective Well-Being

December 2, 2024 Updates:
We’re excited to share a progress update on the process we launched to deepen our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging (DEIJB), now centered in our work on belonging and collective well-being. This journey, guided by voices from across our school, reflects our dedication to fostering an environment where every community member thrives.
How We Got Here: Timeline of Progress
Our process began in June 2023 with the recommendation from the PAIS Accreditation Committee to conduct a DEIJB audit as a pathway toward greater belonging and collective well-being. From this foundation, we reached key milestones to engage our entire community:
  1. PAIS Accreditation Recommendation – PAIS highlighted DEIJB as a major recommendation, encouraging us to pursue expert insights.
  2. Consultant Search – After interviewing 14 candidates, we selected the national DEI expert Nishant Mehta of MehtaCognition.
  3. Securing MehtaCognition – In August 2023, Mr. Mehta joined us to anchor our belonging and collective well-being needs-finding work.
  4. Training Leadership – Mr. Mehta led comprehensive training for the Board of Trustees, Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and Educational Leadership Team (ELT).
  5. Internal Document Review – We reviewed core documents, including our strategic plan, aligning DEIJB efforts with our commitment to collective well-being.
  6. Community Engagement – From April to May 2024, we hosted focus groups and interviews with students, families, and staff from all three campuses.
  7. Needs-Finding Report – Over the summer, MehtaCognition delivered a report that integrated feedback across our school community.
  8. Task Force Formation – Informed by the report, we launched a cross-campus, cross-constituent Task Force on belonging and collective well-being, organized into four groups: Philosophy, Policies/Practices, People, and Programs.
  9. Developing Objectives and Initiatives – The ELT, working with the Task Force, meets bi-weekly to translate report insights into objectives and initiatives. By Spring 2025, we will present a roadmap that embodies our commitment to belonging and collective well-being across Moravian Academy.
This has truly been an all-school process, with voices from every part of our community shaping our path forward.
The Work Ahead
The ELT and Task Force will continue to meet over the coming months, refining our objectives and initiatives to bring belonging and collective well-being into every aspect of our school community. Your participation in focus groups, surveys, and ongoing feedback has been foundational to our efforts.
Thank you for your insights, support, and commitment. We are excited to continue this work together and look forward to sharing our progress this spring. If you have any questions please feel invited to direct them to either one of us.
