The Honorable Judge Paula A. Roscioli ’83

Having a strong desire to serve her community and undeterred by the fear of losing an election led The Honorable Judge Paula A. Roscioli ’83 to her position on the Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County.
She firmly believes that students should have an idea of what they want to do with their lives, but should not hesitate to re-examine those goals as opportunities present themselves. Although criminal law wasn’t her initial interest, she decided to take advantage of the opportunity for a position with the District Attorney’s staff. Judge Roscioli wanted to gain valuable trial experience and it was through this position that she realized how rewarding it could be to prosecute serious criminals and make her community a safer place.

While her late father, Gene F. Roscioli, Esquire ’52P, certainly influenced her initial interest in the legal profession, she remembers it was her teachers at Moravian Academy and professors at Lafayette College (where she earned her undergraduate degree) that ignited a passion for the field.

She credits Moravian Academy for providing her with a strong foundation, giving her the tools she needed to succeed. Former teacher Ms. Bonnie Brill’s “Street Law” class was one such experience she remembers helped to shape her career path. “Ms. Brill saw something in me I had not seen in myself.” She and other teachers had the keen ability to guide and encourage her toward the right career path.

After earning her law degree at Dickinson School of Law, Judge Roscioli returned home to practice with her father and set to work building a reputation as a hard-working and active member of the community.

She served as Northampton County’s First Deputy District Attorney and Chief Violent Crimes Prosecutor prior to her election as judge in 2005. Today, Judge Roscioli finds herself at ease commanding the courtroom where she presides over criminal, civil and family law cases.

Giving back has always been a way of life for Judge Roscioli. She has contributed countless hours to a variety of organizations and philanthropic activities that have meaning to her, always making sure there was time to give back to her alma mater. She fittingly served on the Campus Safety Task Force, spent several terms on the Alumni Association Executive Board, and is commencing her fourth term on the Board of Trustees.

Moravian isn’t just about academics,” Judge Roscioli says. “It is also about the kind of person you are when you graduate. Moravian cares about graduating decent human beings who give back. It is so rewarding to stay active as an alumna.”

As a Moravian Academy parent, Judge Roscioli can now appreciate the school from another perspective. Her sons, Alexander Battisti ’14 and Nicholas Battisti ’18, are proud “lifers” who are continuing the Roscioli legacy set forth by their grandfather, mother, and aunts, she explains.

“My boys get to experience the same meaningful traditions that I shared with my father and my sisters, Dana (Roscioli) Fisher ’81 and Tara Roscioli ’90. I send them here because I still believe that Moravian Academy provides my children with the best education available. Children learn in the classroom, but they also learn on the athletic field, on stage, and in all the activities the school has to offer. I love that it is cool to be an athlete, have the lead in the musical, and be smart. Coming back as a parent has heightened my awareness of what makes this a great place.”
