Inspiring Voices Through Language: Moravian Academy Students Shine at the 2024 National Chinese EXPO
At Moravian Academy, we believe that language is not only a bridge to global understanding but also a powerful medium for creativity and storytelling. This spring, several of our Middle School students from the Chinese Language Program demonstrated just that, earning national recognition for their innovative work at the 2024 National Chinese EXPO of Student Works.
Eighth grader Devi Patel ’29 was honored for her animated project titled 小老鼠跳进了油漆桶 — Little Mouse Jumped into the Paint Bucket, a whimsical yet sophisticated interpretation of a Chinese folk tale. Her work was selected to be featured on the official website of the American Academy of International Culture and Education (AAICE) and now serves as an inspiring exemplar for Chinese language educators nationwide. You can view her project on theAAICE official website (Row 13).
Devi’s project stood out for its thoughtful narrative, attention to linguistic detail, and artistic expression.
She was joined at the EXPO by a number of talented classmates whose projects also exemplified the creativity and cultural engagement fostered through our World Language curriculum:
Jasper Robinson ’29, Teddy Perrotta ’29, and Noah Farr ’29 collaborated on a motion film titled A Pony Crossed the River, blending language learning with visual storytelling in a way that captivated audiences and judges alike.
Jackson Marshall ’29 presented a separate animated version of Little Mouse Jumped into the Paint Bucket, showcasing both linguistic skill and digital artistry in his unique interpretation.
Dija Janjua ’30 and John Brethour ’30 submitted a short film entitled The Monkeys and the Moon, reimagining a classic tale with fresh visuals and engaging narration.
Participation in the National Chinese EXPO is a remarkable accomplishment, reflecting months of dedicated effort, language practice, cultural research, and creative collaboration. We are proud of each student’s commitment to excellence and their passion for cross-cultural exploration.
These students are living examples of how Moravian Academy learners engage deeply with the world around them — not just through language acquisition, but through the thoughtful application of knowledge, imagination, and heart.
Congratulations to our Chinese language students on this outstanding achievement. We cannot wait to see where their voices will take them next.
