2nd Grade Students Experience Local Government in Action
Karin Reger & Kelley Stout
2nd grade students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Allentown City Hall. They met with local police officers and firefighters before touring City Hall and visiting Mayor Matt Tuerk’s office. In Council Chambers, students explored how an idea becomes law, sitting in council members’ chairs while others participated as residents. This hands-on experience brought their government studies to life.
The visit was especially meaningful, as it stemmed from an invitation made during Mayor Tuerk’s visit to Moravian Academy two years ago. Students’ favorite moments included visiting the mayor’s office and engaging in the legislative process.
