Eighth Grade Designers Bring Innovation to Life in The Imaginate Center

Adrian Sauers
At our Swain Campus, eighth-grade student leaders have been hard at work in The Imaginate Center, a signature program that empowers students to bring their independent projects to life. This trimester in our makerspace has been a dynamic journey filled with hands-on learning, creative problem-solving, and plenty of safe fun.

Using our digital design space and workshop, students have explored their passions through a wide range of projects—from architectural models to furniture and even a handcrafted squirrel house. Through the application of math, engineering, and design principles, each creation is a reflection of their curiosity, perseverance, and growing expertise.

The design process is more than just building—it’s about overcoming challenges, celebrating successes, and discovering the confidence to tackle complex tasks independently. The makerspace is a hub of self-discovery, where students develop essential skills in project management, material selection, and tool mastery. These projects are the culmination of years of exploration and empowerment, inspiring students to turn their ideas into reality.
