Harmonies of Nature: Exploring Ecosystems Through Music with the Allentown Symphony
Ani Bermudez
Our second and third graders had the wonderful opportunity to attend a family concert by the Allentown Symphony. The concert, which explored the connections between music and ecosystems, was based on the principles of STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
Through a selection of pieces by composers like Mozart, Bach, and Copland, the students learned about the balance and diversity that exists in both nature and music. As they listened, they could hear how different instruments came together to create harmony, much like the many parts of an ecosystem working in sync. It was a meaningful experience that combined learning with the beauty of music, and I’m sure it sparked some curiosity about how art and science can be connected in ways we might not always see.
It’s always a special moment when our students get to experience something like this, and I’m so glad they were able to attend. It’s one of those events that shows just how powerful music can be in helping us understand the world around us.
