Comenius Project Fair: A Celebration of Curiosity and Research
Brian Crowe
Moravian Academy’s Comenius Independent Study Program is designed to honor, encourage, and foster curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge beyond the classroom. Students work with faculty mentors to formulate and complete research projects that display both critical thinking and creativity.
This year’s Comenius Projects explore an interesting variety of topics, spanning and, in some cases, linking the sciences and humanities.
Here are just a few of the fascinating topics this year’s Comenius Scholars are pursuing:
“America’s Flagship: The Federal Architecture in the National Capital Region” by Tyler Shankweiler ‘26
“How Can We Improve the Lives of Childhood Cancer Survivors” by Sophie Wandall ‘26
“Exploring Ethnobotany: Indigenous Agriculture Practices for a Healthier Society and Planet” by Madeline Yang ‘27
“Are (Micro-Scale) Hydroelectric Generators an Efficient Alternative Energy Source to Implement in the Lehigh Valley?” by Iosif Zavilevich
All are welcome to attend this year’s Comenius Project Fair to be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 5th, in the Melhado Dining Room on the Merle-Smith Campus. Hope to see you there!
